This five season series follows the lives of the Adams Foster family who live in San Diego. The matriarchal heads of this family are police officer Stef Foster and her life partner Lena Adams, a school vice principal. Their multiethnic, blended family includes Brandon, Stef's biological son from her previous marriage, and twins Jesus and Mariana, who were adopted as children. The series begins when the couple take in two foster children, siblings Callie and Jude Jacobs, whom they later adopt. The five children have rough times navigating adolescence because of poor life choices.

"Adoption Day"

Callie and Jude are getting adopted, but a problem interrupts it. A girl asks Jude out on a date and Brandon makes another bad decision that he will regret. Lena reveals a secret to Stef. Callie gets some unexpected visitors. Brandon gets assaulted outside Mike's place.

"Play"

Stef and Lena go to a hotel for a "Babymoon" for the weekend, leaving Brandon and Callie in charge. Brandon invites the band over for practice in his backyard and invites a few friends as an audience. When Jesus and Mariana hear this, they decide to invite a few friends over as well. Word spreads around school and the quiet night in turns into an all-out rager. Callie tries to keep the mob from trashing the place with little success.
