This five season series follows the lives of the Adams Foster family who live in San Diego. The matriarchal heads of this family are police officer Stef Foster and her life partner Lena Adams, a school vice principal. Their multiethnic, blended family includes Brandon, Stef's biological son from her previous marriage, and twins Jesus and Mariana, who were adopted as children. The series begins when the couple take in two foster children, siblings Callie and Jude Jacobs, whom they later adopt. The five children have rough times navigating adolescence because of poor life choices.

"Until Tomorrow"

Callie must make a crucial decision that will affect her entire life: she can accept a plea bargain and serve three years in prison, or she can risk a longer term by going to trial. Even though Callie is struggling with her own position, she attempts to help Diamond out of hers, which becomes exceedingly perilous. With only 24 hours to make a difference in Callie's case, Stef and Mike intensify their investigation into the Martha Johnson murder, gathering as many leads as possible, Troy eventually confesses. Lena confronts Drew about his plan to make substantial changes at Anchor Beach Community Charter School, while Mariana organizes a protest with her fellow students. Meanwhile, Jesus begins to piece together the puzzle that is Emma and Brandon.

 "Resist"

Still thinking her sentence is inevitable, Callie is now stuck in a motel room with Diamond and her psychopath pimp, while Stef races against the clock to find her before it's too late. Struggling with his TBI, Jesus unleashes his anger and takes a baseball bat to Brandon's room. Gabe and Ana admit to being clueless about the dynamics of their relationships with Jesus and Mariana. With Mariana leading the charge, protests continue over Anchor Beach Charter's privatization. Jude gets pepper-sprayed.
