The series centers on three middle-aged best friends from Los Angeles: Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli), Joy (Jane Leeves), and Victoria (Wendie Malick). The three women find a more welcoming and less shallow, less youth-obsessed community in Cleveland, Ohio, after their Paris-bound plane makes an emergency landing. They decide to stay and lease a home where sassy elderly caretaker Elka (Betty White) resides in the guest house.

"The Emmy Show"

Victoria's daughter Emmy (Jennifer Love Hewitt) visits, revealing that she's writing a tell-all book about how Victoria has been a bad mother to her. Meanwhile, Melanie and Joy compete with another woman to date a boy's father, à la The Bachelor.

"Love is Blind"

Joy dates a 22-year-old blind man (Randy Wayne), who believes that she is 26 years old. Meanwhile, Victoria receives a surprise visit from her daughter, Emmy (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and Melanie from her son Will (Joe Jonas), who reveal their plan to wed each other. Elsewhere, Elka prank calls A-Rod.

"Elka Takes a Lover"

Emmy arrives for the premiere of Victoria's movie, and announces she's 8 months pregnant and had earlier eloped with her schoolteacher boyfriend. Melanie and Joy both attend the premiere with unintended dates -- Melanie with her creepy dentist (Larry Miller) and Joy with Detective Bob after he pretended to be a fake cousin named Stone Van Buren. Meanwhile, Elka has a much younger lover, a free spirit named Luke (Chris Elliott).
