The series features Hannington's journey from housewife and mother to petty offender, diamond thief and criminal mastermind in 1980s London.
Episode 1
Joan is a penniless and recently abandoned wife and mother who impulsively steals diamonds from the jewelry shop where she works, which propels her into the quick and easy world of crime.
Episode 2
Joan falls for Boisie as she recognises her talent and enjoys the spoils of crime in glamorous Spain, but she also faces scrutiny of her parenting.
Episode 3
Joan rises to new heights: the theft of a valuable painting and an audacious ring switch. Boisie falls for Joan while Kelly slips further away than ever.

An attempt to sell the stolen painting goes wrong, landing Joan in a perilous situation.
